The General Assembly of North Carolina has amended its laws governing the title transfer of salvage vehicles by removing notary requirements, permitting electronic signatures and allowing access to division of motor vehicle systems.

Prompted by the global health crisis, the amendment, due to be signed into law in mid-July, marks a new milestone because now 25 – half the states -- would officially be eligible to transfer total loss titles digitally.

“With the passage of HB 337 (Regular Session 2019), North Carolina became the 25th state to enable electronic salvage title processing,” said Sarah Hunsicker, director of government affairs for Dealertrack Registration and Title Solutions.

Even before the pandemic forced dealerships, DMVs and auctions to operate with fewer staff and social distancing, total loss title processing could take 8-10 weeks. The new law paves the way for digital processing of total loss titles in North Carolina.

DAA Northwest is excited to announce the 25th anniversary of its signature promotion: The Rock & Roll Sale. The event takes on a new twist this year with simulcast-only sales and a virtual, rooftop concert July 22nd and 23rd.

“We had already signed Weezer to perform during our 25th Rock & Roll Sale when Covid-19 hit,” said Bob McConkey, President and CEO of the McConkey Auction Group. “When Washington State went into lockdown and our auctions were temporarily closed, we anticipated the road ahead would be long. We had to adjust to the current reality, recognizing that everything had changed for us.” With the uncertainty of the future, DAA canceled Weezer’s performance and regrouped. “The Rock & Roll Sale is our biggest event, and our customers wondered what we were going to do,” McConkey said. As July approached, several institutional accounts contacted McConkey and David Pendergraft, DAA Northwest’s general manager about supporting a virtual Rock & Roll Sale. “We pulled our team together and immediately got creative about delivering a new Rock & Roll Sale experience,” Pendergraft said.

The result is Rock & Roll Week – a series of Edge Simulcast sales that begin at DAA Northwest with 1,100 fleet/lease units at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 22. MAG Motorsports featuring bikes from Harley-Davidson Financial Services follows at 10:30 a.m., with MAG Now, the McConkey Auction Group’s digital auction powered by EBlock kicking off at 1 p.m.

On Wednesday at 6 p.m., DAA Northwest presents the YouTube premiere of The Cronkites’ rooftop concert. The Cronkites have opened for DAA Northwest’s international Rock & Roll Sale headliners every year since 1998. This July, their stage will be atop DAA Northwest’s 25,000 square-foot auction arena. A link to the concert’s YouTube premiere will be available on magauctions.com July 22.

Thursday morning, DAA Northwest will offer 1,400 dealer and fleet/lease vehicles via Edge Simulcast and $30,000 in post-sale prizes. Rock & Roll Sale Week concludes Friday, July 24, with DAA Seattle’s 500-unit Edge Simulcast sale.

McConkey sums it up with, “As the saying goes, ‘the show must go on.’”

America’s Auto Auction has announced that Amanda Kennedy has been named Fleet/Lease Manager at its facility  in Virginia Beach. Kennedy assumes the new role as the auction welcomes customers back for live sales and readies for an upswing in fleet and lease volumes following the slowdown caused by industry restrictions put in place to battle COVID-19. Kennedy has worked for America’s Virginia since 2016, most recently as Fleet/Lease Coordinator.

“Amanda has proven herself to be an outstanding team player from the moment she came to work for us in 2016,” said Jerry Daisey, auction general manager. “She brings tremendous enthusiasm to her work, along with great organizational skills and an outstanding work ethic that shows in everything she does. Her leadership and dedication have made a great impact on those she works with at the auction and on our customers as well. She has a great future in the business, and we are delighted to have her onboard as our Fleet/Lease Manager.”

Kennedy is also a U.S. Army Reserve Veteran who served in the military police.

“America’s commitment to quality and customer service is evident in every aspect of the business, and I’m proud not only to work in that kind of company culture but to represent that culture to our clients. The auction has returned to live selling every week, and we foresee big gains in our commercial volumes,” Kennedy said. “I’m looking forward to helping to facilitate that growth among our fleet/lease accounts.”
