Novak Auto Parts, a family-owned auto recycling business since 1958, has garnered prestigious industry recognition from the Auto Recyclers Association, a national organization whose mission is to “promote the conservation of energy and the total utilization of resources.”
ARA recently recognized Novak Auto Parts as Certified Automotive Recycler (CAR) of the Year. According to Sandy Blalock, ARA’s executive director, “The Novaks’ commitment of adhering to the environmental and safety regulatory compliance requirements of the professional auto recycling CAR program assures their status as one of the best in our industry.”
Vehicles at Novak Auto Parts, located in western Pennsylvania, undergo a rigorous auto dismantling process in which all fluids are drained, safely contained, and put to good use. Gasoline is repurposed to power on-site work vehicles; oil is used to heat buildings; and windshield washer fluid is purified and resold. Recycled freon is also sold to repair shops and even the water used to wash car parts is collected, filtered, and reused on site.
“As one of the few carbon-negative industries, auto recycling has an enormous positive environmental impact when performed responsibly,” said owner Roger Novak, “so we strive daily to improve our facility and advance the industry.”
Delayed by supply chain issues that have impacted so much of the transportation sector, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana took delivery of a new refrigerated box truck just in time for the holidays. Gleaners purchased the truck earlier this year with a $150,000 grant from the James M. Cox Foundation, the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises, parent company of Cox Automotive, and named after the company’s founder. The truck is co-branded between Gleaners and Indiana-based NextGear Capital, a Cox Automotive brand.
Gleaners is distributing more than 99 million meals in 2023, putting a strain on the organization’s aging fleet of box trucks, which log more than a quarter million miles each year.
“The addition of this truck to our fleet expands our ability to distribute, at minimum, 80,000 additional meals to neighbors in need,” said Gleaners President/CEO Fred Glass. “Because of the expansive area we serve, we rely heavily on our fleet of trucks to transport large volumes of food, particularly fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats and highly desired dairy items.”
In total, the James M. Cox Foundation has given $350,000 over recent years.
“Gleaners Food Bank holds a very special place with us because of the meaningful work they do to feed those in need throughout Indiana,” added Scott Maybee, president of NextGear Capital. “Every year, our teams look forward to volunteering at Gleaners, from loading vehicles with meal items for families struggling with food insecurity to organizing and hosting fundraising events.” Since its inception in 2005, NextGear Capital has given back nearly $3 million to local communities, benefitting up to 79 nonprofits each year.

As part of the celebration, SEMA honored several automakers at the SEMA Awards Presentation, which took place Oct. 30 outside the Central Hall entrance.
“This year’s Exhibitor Appreciation Party was a memorable night for everyone who attended. Ituran Location and Control Ltd. has addressed the status of the company’s ongoing activity in Israel, against the background of the terrorist attack by Hamas against unarmed civilians in the south of the country and the subsequent declaration of war by the Israeli government.
Ituran’s management affirms that the company has not seen any impact to its ongoing operations in Israel or elsewhere, and continues to make any adjustments to ensure continuity, as maybe needed. Furthermore, its headquarters are in the center of the country, just outside of Tel Aviv and not near any borders.
“The Ituran family is absolutely horrified by the barbaric attacks against ordinary citizens, which directly led to the declaration of war by Israel,” said Eyal Sheratzky, CEO of Ituran. “All our employees have been affected in a very personal way, and the small size of our country is such that everyone knows a family that has either had a son or daughter murdered or kidnapped by Hamas. We pray for the victims as well as their families, friends and loved ones. I stress that we are resilient people, and unfortunately have much experience in working and overcoming challenging times.”
“At the same time, we wish to reaffirm to our employees, partners and shareholders that our operations have not been impacted in Israel, or anywhere else in the world, despite our personal grieving. Naturally, the safety of our employees remains our highest priority. While hostilities have not taken place near our headquarters and it remains a safe environment, the vast majority of our employees are able to work remotely from their homes. Finally, I would like to thank all those that have reached out to express their support and best wishes.”
