Retail Sales Rise

Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for October 2024, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $718.9 billion, an increase of 0.4% (±0.5%) from the previous month, and up 2.8% (±0.5%) from October 2023, according to the Commerce Department on Nov. 15. Total sales for the August 2024 through October 2024 period were up 2.3% (±0.5%) from the same period a year ago. The August 2024 to September 2024% change was revised from up 0.4% (±0.5%) to up 0.8% (±0.2%).

Retail trade sales were up 0.4% (±0.5%) from September 2024, and up 2.6% (±0.5%) from last year. Non-store retailers were up 7.0% (±1.4%) from last year, while food services and drinking places were up 4.3% (±2.1%) from October 2023.
