Values Rise for Older Small Pickups

Black Book reported that the fourth quarter is following the expected seasonal depreciation for most segments. However, the Small Pickup segment is exhibiting unique behavior, with increasing values observed for units that are 8 years old or newer.

Car Segments

  • On a volume-weighted basis, the overall Car segment decreased -0.52%. For reference, in the previous week, cars decreased -0.46%.
  • The 0-to-2-year-old Car segments were down -0.38% and 8-to-16-year-old Cars decreased -0.48%.
  • All nine Car segments experienced declines last week, with four segments seeing depreciation of more than half a percent.
  • Compact (-0.87%) and Sub-Compact (-0.86%) Car reported the largest declines last week, an increase in depreciation compared with the prior week’s declines of -0.66% and -0.55%, respectively.
  • Premium Sporty Car had the smallest depreciation last week, only declining -0.02%. However, the newer used (0-to-2-year-olds) declined -0.29%.

 Truck / SUV Segments

  • The volume-weighted, overall Truck segment decreased -0.45% compared to the decrease seen the prior week of -0.41%.
  • The 0-to-2-year-old models saw an average decrease of -0.35% and the 8-to-16-year-old models experienced an average decrease of -0.43%.
  • Twelve of the thirteen Truck segments reported a decrease last week, with two segments seeing depreciation of more than one percent.
  • Full-Size Van and Sub-Compact Crossover both experienced declines exceeding 1%, with decreases of 1.02% and 1.01%, respectively. The Sub-Compact Crossover segment last saw a single week decline over 1% in December 2023, while the Full-Size Van segment was in July of this year.
  • The Small Pickup segment saw an increase of 0.14% last week, following a minor decline of 0.06% in the previous week.
