CDK Global Outage Continues

By Staff Writer June 21, 2024

CDK Global systems remain offline for the 3rd day, affecting deanships in the U.S and Canada. The company, whose software is used across the Dealership world, shuttered operations after a cyber attack early in the morning on June 19.  After partially restoring core services later in the day, CDK Global was hit by a second attack in the evening.

CDK spokesperson Lisa Finney released a statement the following day saying the company had proactively shut down most of its systems again after the second incident. The company has indicated it may take several days before systems are back online.  “In partnership with third party experts, we are assessing the impact and providing regular updates to our customers. We remain vigilant in our efforts to reinstate our services and get our dealers back to business as usual as quickly as possible,” the company said in the statement.

The CDK update hotline said, as of Friday afternoon, “that they do not have an estimated time frame for resolution — and therefore dealer systems will not be available, likely for several days. The company will continue to post updates as they come available.  Customer care support channels also remain unavailable.”  CDK phone and Web X calling are working.

“Bad actors” have been calling customers, posing as members or affiliates of CDK in an attempt to try to obtain system access, the message added.  Any requests should be looked at as suspicious. CDK associates have not been, and never would, solicit information from customers.  It urged Dealerships to be cautious of any attempted phishing and to not provide passwords or system access to anyone posing as CDK staff or associates.
