Nissan Sentra Model years 2002-2006, along with Nissan Pathfinder 2002-2004 and Infiniti QX4 2002-2003 owners have been advised to not drive until their Takata airbag safety issue is resolved.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration told owners of nearly 84,000 Nissan vehicles to stop driving them immediately due to safety concerns. The vehicles, the Nissan Sentra (2002-2006), Nissan Pathfinder (2002-2004) and Infiniti QX4 (2002-2003) were recalled in 2020 due to faulty Takata airbags, but have yet to be repaired. Over 7 million Takata airbags have been recalled in the United States in the biggest auto safety recall in history.

The NHTSA released the announcement after the Japanese automaker issued a warning on May 29. "If you have one of these vehicles, do not drive it until the repair is completed and the defective airbag is replaced," NHTSA said.  Even "minor crashes can result in exploding Takata airbags that can kill or produce life-altering, gruesome injuries."

The agency noted Nissan dealers are offering free towing, mobile repair and in some locations loaner vehicles.
