A glass company, an electric truck manufacturer, an auto parts maker, a plastics company, a housing development and a community project all received millions of dollars from the state of Michigan.

The Michigan Strategic Fund doled out funding this week to major investments across the state.

“Altogether, these projects will further secure Michigan’s automotive manufacturing and electrification ecosystem and onshore supply chains, ensuring that our state continues to be the industry leader for generations to come,” said Michigan Economic Development Corp. CEO Quentin Messer.

Magna International, an auto supplier that employs more than 11,000 people in Michigan, was awarded a $4.2 million grant to support a $105 million investment in Auburn Hills.

The $38 billion company plans to construct a 280,000-square-foot facility at the former Oakland County Animal Shelter that will supply foam, cloth and leather seat trim and seat assemblies to automakers. When completed, Magna expects the plant will employ 532 people working three shifts.

The state board also gave an electric truck manufacturer a $3 million grant. Bollinger Motors, founded in New York and now headquartered in Michigan, plans to invest $44 million and create 237 jobs in Oakland County.

The Michigan Strategic Fund also greenlit funding for two manufacturers of plastics and glass.

LuxWall, headquartered in Ypsilanti, plans to invest more than $165 million to construct the world’s first “high volume vacuum insulation glass” factories in Detroit and Hillsdale County, a project memo said. The company expects to create 453 jobs with the help of a $6 million grant.

The two Michigan factories will produce the windows to be sold in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and Austria.

Michigan awarded Vantage Plastics a $1.6 million grant as the company braces for more growth from the auto supply chain.
