Guidepoint Assists Dealers with 3G Sunset

Guidepoint Systems, a 20+ year global provider of vehicle telematics and Software as a Service (SaaS) for automotive OEMs, new and used vehicle dealerships, rental agencies and commercial fleet managers, is offering assistance to vehicle owners, auto dealers and fleet managers who are struggling to navigate the sunsetting of 3G wireless networks.

On February 22, AT&T was the first telecommunications company in the United States to discontinue operation of its 3G wireless service, effectively terminating functionality for older mobile transmission devices that are not compatible with 4G LTE or 5G technologies. On March 31st, Sprint’s older 3G (CDMA) network was retired. Next up, Sprint will end its LTE service on June 30th and T-Mobile will end its 3G service on July 1st. Verizon will retire its 3G service at the end of the year.

“As we predicted, this technology transition has been challenging for some 3G users because of a lack planning, labor shortages and limited supplies of newer equipment,” said Samuel Spencer, President and CEO of Guidepoint Systems. “Fortunately for our customers, we planned for this transition and have been able to overcome supply chain challenges by obtaining customized telematics hardware to meet more than 20,000 vehicle orders. We’ve helped many of our customers stay ahead of the 3G sunsetting issue just by being prepared and focused on their needs.”
