Ford Explorer Recall for Loose Rail Roof Covers Starts in June

By Staff Writer June 17, 2021
Ford is issuing a recall on 620,483 Explorer SUVs in the U.S for loose rail roof covers. The recall affects model year 2016 to 2019 Base, XLT, Sport, and Police Interceptor Explorers with silver, black, or absolute black roof rails. The roof rail covers may become unattached and cause a hazard on the road for other drivers.
In April 2020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began investigating 11 reports that said the covers detached during driving.
Ford will begin notifying owners of the recall starting in the last week of June. Dealers will fix the issue by installing plastic push pins to secure the roof rail covers and replace any damaged pieces.
