Activists have pushed rules against payday lending that would basically end the practice. They don't like bail bondsmen, either. You might say, "I don't like these people either. What do I care?" If you're a buy-here, pay-here dealer or a used-car dealer who caters to subprime customers, you should care a lot. You might see yourselves as different, but consumer advocates and regulators see you as committing the same sin – extending credit to the poor.
It's not just the bad apples. You're all bad apples in their eyes. You might not like it, but you have more in common with payday lenders and bail bondsmen than you do with other dealers. You're all the baddies.
