CarMax Moves into New Market Featured

CarMax Inc. celebrated the grand opening of its first store in Michigan, located in Kentwood at 4431 28th Street.

The Kentwood store will have the capacity to stock approximately 200 used vehicles.

During the grand opening celebration, CarMax announced that The CarMax Foundation will be providing a $10,000 grant to the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.

The grant will help fund the YMCA Veggie Van, which is West Michigan’s only mobile farmers market. The Veggie Van provides the opportunity for local farmers to sell produce directly to residents in low food access neighborhoods.
Kentwood CarMax associates nominated the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids to receive the grant.

  • State Suspends Dealer’s License

The Michigan Secretary of State suspended the license of a Muskegon used-vehicle dealer after consumer complaints led department investigators to the discovery of violations.
Several consumers who had purchased vehicles from Arizona Charlie’s Auto & Truck Sales in Muskegon complained that the dealership had not sought titles and registrations within the required 15 days of vehicle delivery. When an investigator from the department’s Office of Investigative Services visited the dealership, the owner could not provide required paperwork for several vehicles that had been sold.
A summary suspension was served on the dealer on March 7, at which time he surrendered his license.
Laws requiring detailed recordkeeping protect against the sale of stolen vehicles and parts, and ensure the vehicle buyer receives a clear and valid title to prove ownership.

  • State Suspends Dealer for Selling Temporary Registrations

The Michigan Secretary of State has suspended the license of Miller Used Cars after an investigation with area law enforcement found multiple violations including the alleged illegal sale of temporary vehicle registrations.
The investigation began after the Michigan State Police informed the Secretary of State’s Office of numerous traffic stops involving vehicles displaying temporary registrations, often called paper plates, allegedly issued by the Flint dealership. The drivers of the vehicles each provided statements indicating the temporary registrations had been purchased illegally and were also unable to provide sufficient vehicle purchase documentation.
Secretary of State investigators conducted an inspection of Miller Used Cars, with assistance from the Genesee Area Investigations Network. Upon inspection, investigators found that dealership staff could not provide requested records, could only account for 7 of 385 temporary registrations purchased, and could not account for more than 60 vehicles, even though they had the vehicle titles in possession.
