You Are There

Last winter, I spoke at the Auction Academy and told the attendees that social media has entirely changed the game for crisis management. You used to have some time to develop a response when something went wrong. Today, people can watch it unfold and develop opinions before you even fully understand what is happening.

And now I have a great demonstration of this situation. The other day, a driver at Southern Auto Auction had what police are calling “a medical emergency.” He struck four people and crashed into a car before winding up in the trees.

The story was picked up by the Associated Press, which in the past would have been a pretty bad outcome from a publicity standpoint. But this time, it was in the Twitter feed of Ike Ejiochi as it was happening.

We’re all the media, now.
