An Attorney Said So

Over the weekend, the biggest story after the Thai soccer players (Yay!) was that the Trump administration was casting out immigrants from the military. The validity of the story is somewhat questionable and while I don’t know enough to pass judgment on the content, I am concerned about the origin.

All stories start with somebody who has an axe to grind. That’s all Mark Felt was. In this case, it was attorney Margaret Stock. Any time an attorney is pushing a story, you would think journalists would be skeptical. This guy will tell you why. But while they believe every other businessperson is motivated by greed, they believe attorneys like this are fighting for truth, justice and the American way. This is true of the topic is immigration or auto finance. Class-action lawsuits are big money. So big, you’d think it would be easy to follow. But most reporters suffer from what I call Fox Mulder Syndrome.
