Decline in Car Sales Boost Prices Featured

The average transaction price for a new vehicle was $36,843 in April, according to estimates from Kelley Blue Book.

Prices increased $732 from April 2018, while rising $93 from March.

The increase was largely due to the shifting sales mix toward SUVs and crossovers. Even though SUV prices were up just 1 percent for the month, market share for less expensive car segments continued to decline.

Truck prices saw the biggest increases in April, with prices rising 4 percent on average.
